Jonathan

Woodstock, New York, is more famous for a historic rock concert than apples. However, the Jonathan apple is believed to have originated from an Esopus Spitzenburg seedling in 1826 from the farm of Philip Rick in Woodstock. Although it may have originally been called the "Rick apple," it was soon renamed by Judge Buel, President of Albany (NY) Horticultural Society, after Jonathan Hasbrouck, who discovered the apple and brought it to Buel's attention. The apple is medium-sized, sweet and full of acidity, with a tough but smooth skin.

Le Mousseux Sparkling Apple Cider, La Provencale Cellars
Le Mousseux Sparkling Apple Cider, La Provencale Cellars

Le Mousseux Sparkling Cider is the natural, unfermented juice of a hand-selected blend of fresh whole apples grown in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The blend of several apple varieties includes McIntosh for sweet fruit flavor, Jonathan for aromatic intensity, and Granny Smith for high acidity. Results: a sophisticated dry apple aroma with a spicy flavor and crisp finish. This European-style non-alcoholic sparkling cider contains a little Vitamin C but no added sugars or sweetners.
